Computer Tips 01 - Basic Windows

Cutting Copying Pasting

One of the most important things to learn is Cutting, Copying and Pasting. No it has nothing to do with scissors or hobby paste which you probably used last in pre-school. It is all about Windows text, all text applications in windows use these wonderful tools, Notepad, Word, Internet Explorer and your Files etc. It is one of the wonderful things Windows has built in to all its Operating Systems since Windows 95.

First Things First Highlight Copy/Cut Clipboard

First of all you must know how to highlight text or files, it involves dragging the mouse/cursor over the area you want highlighted. It should appear like this >>> Once you see the text like this it's ready to be cut or copied. Cut will remove the text and hold it in what's called the Clipboard, it stays here until you execute the paste command.

Select Text Cut/Copy Navigate Paste

While the text is highlighted, Right click on it and a menu comes up with some options, choose the one you want cut or copy. If u select cut, voila it will disappear but dont worry it is still in the clipboard waiting for you to tell it where you want the text. Now you must navigate to where you want the text to be placed.

Left Click Mouse Right Click Cursor Paste

It is very important to click the left mouse button now and have the flashing cursor exactly at the point where you want the text to be pasted. Now click the right mouse button again (right click) and select the "paste"option, wherever the cursor currently is will be where the word will appear.

Remember, the biggest problem with computers, is usually the fault of what's between the keyboard and the seat !!!.
